Abstract : Premature birth is a major public health concern. Among the different means of prevention currently used, the pessary seems to be an attractive alternative. The main purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of the pessary in premature delivery threats. A retrospective observational study was carried out on 45 patients having benefited from a pessary, 15 of whom had previously had a cervical cerclage. In comparison with other studies, it was not found that the pessary caused a reduction of the rate of premature birth before 34 weeks of amenorrhea. However, the pessary would appear to have a positive effect on the extension of pregnancy. So, the pessary is an inexpensive non-invasive device that would appear to be of interest in the prevention of premature birth.
