Conséquences de l’hypovitaminose D sur le niveau de pression artérielle : une étude prospective sur une cohorte d’hypertendus bordelais

Abstract : Introduction : The hypothesis that vitamin D deficiency plays a role in occuring of various disease has led to a rise in requests of dosages and to a enormous increase of healthcare costs. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and hypertension in many studies. Animal studies demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency activates the renin angiotensin system but corresponding humans data are limited. Objective : The aim of the study was to document relationships between 25(OH)D, blood pressure and components of the renin angiotensin system in hypertensive subjects. Materials and Methods : 248 hypertensive individuals were included in this prospective study. 25(OH)D, aldosterone and plasma renin activity levels were determined, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were measured. Statistical analyses were carried out to analyse the association between vitamin D, blood pressure and SRAA, using linear and logistic regressions with adjustments on age, sex, body mass index and season. Results : There were no significant association between 25(OH)D and levels of diastolic (p= 0,27) or systolic blood pressure (p= 0,21), PRA (p= 0,41) and aldosterone (p= 0,47). Conclusion : These results indicate that 25(OH)D is not associated to blood pressure level or to SRAA activity in this cohort of hypertensive subjects. The negativity of interventional studies on the one hand, the increasing dosage requests and the phenomenal resulting costs on the second hand, suggest that the vitamin D is a source of interest behind which intertwine financial and medical issues.
