L’implication des sages-femmes libérales dans la valorisation de leurs compétences : analyse qualitative à partir d’entretiens réalisés en Isère et Savoie

Abstract : Objectives: This thesis’ aim was to determine to what extent liberal midwives take part in the promotion of their skills to patients and the professionals with whom they interact. Materials and methods: It was a descriptive, qualitative, prospective and multicentric study, conducted by means of semi-directive interviews with 11 liberal midwives in the Isere and Savoie departments. Results: The thematic analysis of the results showed that during the making of their professional network midwives willingly present their skills. However, once this network is build, they adopt an attitude of withdrawal, which they also have with patients, and which results only in a minor renewal of their skills promotion. They are also faced with a problem caused by their position as regard to their communication approach: we can make a connection between the way in which they induced themselves and their reluctance to make up for the lack of representation which they are subjected to. This problem thus limits any competitive approach. Conclusion: The improvement of liberal midwives in promoting their skills promotion could benefit from an increase in the status of private practitioners or by masculinizing the private sector.
