Caractérisation des atypicités de la perception des émotions faciales dans les troubles autistiques et neurovisuels

Abstract : Because both disorders have similar visual cognitive processes, the expression of autistic spectrum disorder (TSA in French) and that of neurovisual impairments (TNV in French) may lead to a complicated differential diagnosis. In order to appreciate the extent of neurovisual dysfunction in autistic symptomatology, control participants (n=50), TNV (n=22) and TSA (n=9) were evaluated through neurovisual tests, MMS, autistic quotient and a computerized emotional categorization task. This task includes faces that express 4 distinct feelings appearing in turn according to different spatial frequencies (local vs overall) and different presentation time lengths (100ms vs 200ms). This protocol shows neurovisual impairments in TSA and TNV and low performance almost like in the task of categorizing emotions. Our results show a correlation between visual function disorder and emotion processing impairment.
