Construire les prémices d'un regard géographique en moyenne et grande section de maternelle

Abstract : Building up a geographic perspective for pre-school children requires being aware of : the skills this objective demands ; the development of gross motor skills in pupils aged 4 or 5. To build such a perspective, we need to help the pupils reconsider their self-centered spatial patterns. The children’s motor skills will be studied first and tools will be provided for better landscape reading. To help them acquire these skills, we’ll start by examining their surrounding location, a stage the official curriculum highly recommends. Starting from how they view their own village, we’ll gradually make them look better in order to develop their own geographic perspective. The cultural arts course shall help reach this goal which will also be fostered by cross-cutting activities. Thus, learning the glossary of topology and using it in all subjects -such as motor skills, art, maths- shall allow the pupils to build up cross-cutting skills and knowledge around how the landscape is seen and built. The children have eventually made significant progress. Indeed, they’re now able to use the glossary when examining other new landscapes. Their perspective has evolved and the way they survey their surrounding location has both broadened and become more accurate.
