Pertinence des indications d'avulsion des troisièmes molaires en Aquitaine

Abstract : The objective of this study was to evaluate the relevance of third molars removal’s indications in Aquitaine for general dental practitioners, orthodontists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons, in order to identify and compare their habits. Material and Methods: A descriptive study of their habits was carried out on the basis of a multiple choice questions paper. Seven clinical cases were presented to 44 practitioners. Each clinical case was in relation with a specific clinical situation. Results: Significant differences were found between each oral specialty in terms of choosing to remove or not the third molars. However, no significant differences were found according to the original faculty. Conclusion: There is a difference of attitude between the groups. The oral and maxillofacial surgeons are less conservative than the others. We also found an important number of prophylactic removals. The major part of the participants was favorable towards updating the recommendations.
