Pertinence d'un étalonnage bilingue à l'EVALO 2-6

Abstract : The aim of the study is to assess the potential need of a bilingual standardization of a French language battery, EVALO 2-6, originally standardized for monolingual children aged 2 to 6. Tasks from this battery have been selected out of three main language areas: phonology, vocabulary and morphosyntax. We compared the performances on these tasks of three groups of children aged between 4 and 6: 12 typically-developing (TD) monolingual children, 15 TD bilingual children and 5 bilingual children with specific language impairment (SLI). Bilingual TD children performed significantly below their monolingual TD peers on most of the tasks. Bilingual children with SLI got significantly lower results than their TD bilingual peers. Results show the negative impact of bilingualism, as well as the additive effect of SLI and bilingualism, suggesting that a bilingual standardization would be helpful to assess the language and diagnose SLI in bilingual children.
