La contrefaçon de médicaments en Europe et moyens de lutte

Abstract : Health products (and medicine in particular) need to follow strong requirements during all their life cycle. Their design, distribution and trading to the public area are driven by strong rules. Their quality is then monitored during all their life cycle thanks to numerous quality controls. This process is mandatory to inforce quality and safety of these medicines. At the European level, several actions are developed to improve the legal background for medicine trading. These measures aim to facilitate intra-European committee exchanges and, in the meantime, to ensure a high safety level for these medicine products. The expensive market price of these products is related to the quality requirements that they need to achieve in order to be exchanged in the European health product market. Consequently, this market is threatened by numerous criminal organizations which see it as an important money outcome by selling falsified medicine products. These illegal organizations manage to trade falsified medicine in the legal health product market. These falsified medicine products threaten the public health level. Thus, even if in the real public health market a few falsified products have been just distributed illegally; in the online Internet health market, numerous illegal online pharmacy websites can distribute falsified products almost without any legal boundaries. Consequently, legal procedures must be currently developed in order to face the growth of this illegal market. Online market (i.e. Internet pharmacy websites for medicine trading) is part of the solution. In this context, new tools and procedures need to be designed and developed in order to help public users to identify correctly and securely which website proposes original and legal medicine and which website proposes falsified medicine.
