Pratiquer les sciences physiques et chimiques en anglais

Abstract : Usually, French students are in difficulty when it comes to speak English with others. I noticed that during my trips and international exchange. We feel ashamed of our “frenchy” accent, and we miss vocabulary. However, English is said to be the international communication language, especially in science and technology. In 2014, 68% of French students blame their English teaching (Wall Street Institute). New education methods advise teachers to give priority to interdisciplinary. As a Physics and Chemistry teacher, I wondered how I could help my students to feel more comfortable with speaking English and to learn more vocabulary. Therefore, I used several activities in English during my classes. I wanted to measure the effects of an English learning integrated with another discipline and to what extent in can be efficient. My students had to fill in a vocabulary test, at three different times. They also had to fill in an evaluation form. Results showed that they learnt new vocabulary, rather scientific vocabulary. Nevertheless, I couldn’t come to the conclusion that they felt more comfortable at speaking English in front of other people.
