Syndrome d'apnée du sommeil chez l'enfant et santé parodontale : revue de la littérature

Abstract : Children’s Obstructive Sleep Apnea syndrome (OSA) is a sleep disorder that leads to an inflammatory mediators increase and is considered as a major risk factor to cardiovascular disease. The objective of this study was to highlight a possible link between OSA and periodontal health in children. In a first part, the author describes the pathogenesis of OSA, the symptomatology and the diagnostic tools. In a second part, the author describes the children’s periodontium, the various indications to make a positive diagnosis and the treatments. In a third part, the author highlights, through a review of the literature, despite the rare bibliography, a relationship between oral breathing and periodontal pathology. Further studies are needed to conclude that a direct link exists between children’s OSA and periodontal health.
