La liberté du droit de vote dans le département de Seine-et-Oise durant la crise du seize mai 1877

Abstract : Created in pain, the Third Republic was the result of difficult compromises between the republicans and conservatives various currents. Crisis burst into 1877, when the monarchic President Mac-Mahon caused the resignation of the President of the Council Jules Simon and decided to dissolve the Chamber of Deputies. This research work exposes a study, through the prism of a decisive event for the future of the regime, the freedom of the right to vote while elections were the subject of strong electoral pressures. By taking for angle the republican department of Seine-et-Oise, the objective is to identify what kind of electoral practices was implemented by both sides to influence the vote. Department profoundly rural but situated at the heart of French political life, its study allows us to analyze the insertion and diversity of electoral practices within the local influence networks. This repertory of actions, from the use of official candidates to political repression, including the notables’ mobilization, aimed to force the freedom of the voters.
