Identification et caractérisation des forêts anciennes des parcs naturels régionaux du Haut-Languedoc, des Grands Causses et des Causses du Quercy. Apports de la complémentarité des données cartographiques, naturalistes et historiques

Abstract : Studies on ancient forests are more and more nowadays; Massif central’s territory is particularly targeted. One of these projects is developed by IPAMAC (Association Inter-Parcs du Massif central) and 12 regional parks and Parks’ projects are concerned by it.
We qualify as ancient a forest if it exists for 200 years uninterrupted. In order to identify them, we used cartography’s method based on Etat-major’s map. To characterize them, we selected some in order to look into them thanks to naturalist studies and forestry archives.
This work shows methods used to locate ancient forests thanks to cartography, to identify them by history and ecology and to characterize their interest for biodiversity. We emphasized the complementarity of many data’s sources.
The study’s territory includes three regional parks of the Massif central: the Haut-Languedoc, the Grands Causses and the Causses du Quercy.
