Contraception, suivi gynécologique de prévention et compétences dans ces domaines : quelle est la représentation des sages-femmes d'aujourd'hui ?

Abstract : Objectives: To analyze women's knowledge of midwifery gynecology skills, organization of gynecological monitoring and their social perception of the midwife. Materials and methods:We carried out a descriptive study among 18-to49-year-old women in several public places in Grenoble from mid-September 2016 to mid-January 2017.The assessment criteria included response rates truly representative of the skills, the average cost of a consultation, the waiting time for an appointment, and the social perception of the midwife. Results: Of 196 women interviewed, 18.70% of women had knowledge of recent midwifery skills. They were mostly followed by a gynecologist. A consultation costed on average 39.64 euros and the waiting time for an appointment was 7 weeks. Women mainly linked midwifery with childbirth, pregnancy and its monitoring, but also with human qualities such as listening and gentleness. Conlusion:The midwives’ skills seem to be unknown, besides the historical skills around birth. In a context in which women may find it increasingly difficult to get an appointment with gynecologists, information about these skills needs to be better relayed.
