Étude des mécanismes antibactériens de souches de Streptococcus salivarius et de leur effet sur deux bactéries de la maladie parodontale : Fusobacterium nucleatum et Porphyromonas gingivalis

Abstract : The presence of Streptococcus salivarius is generally associated with a good dental health. Its antibacterial properties against cariogenic strains have been already demonstrated leading to its use as a probiotic. The purpose of this work was to highlight the inhibitory effect of S. salivarius clinical isolates against two periodontopathogenic strains: Fusobacterium nucleatum and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Material and Methods: The antibacterial activity of 34 strains of S. salivarius was studied using the agar overlay technique and also on an experimental model of biofilm. The adherence properties were studied measuring adhesion on a glass tube. Antibacterial mechanisms were also investigated by genotypic method: salivaricin genes were searched. Results: Three S. salivarius strains inhibited the growth of F. nucleatum. 19 strains inhibited the growth of P. gingivalis. 31 strains formed a good glass-holding biofilm. Among the 5 strains tested within experimental plurispecies biofilm, 2 caused a decrease of the number of the others species. The salivaricin 9 gene was checked among 3 strains, and the salivaricin A gene among 3 other strains. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that several strains of S. salivarius show an interesting inhibitive action, particularly the strain n°152 which groups many criteria necessary for a probiotic.
