Addiction au sucre : neuromarketing et santé publique : le rôle du pharmacien d’officine dans le conseil nutritionnel

Abstract : Nowdays, the sugar and the sweeteners hold an important place in our daily diet. Biogically, humans experience innate attraction for the sweet flavors. Sugar mainly arise from the process of the photosynthesis of sugar cane, beet and other plants who produced sugar. Carbohydrates have a sweetening power conferring them pleasant gustative properties. By means of the glycolyse, they represent directly mobilizable or storable energy with the glycogen. The consumption of sugar mobilizes the same neurotransmitters of pleasure, commonly known as dopamine, in similar cerebral zones to those activated by psychoactive substances. The status of the sugar is thus ambivalent because it is able to create eating disorders. Indeed, the advertising and industrial « neuromarketing » influence and guide individual consumptions. The chronicity and the rehearsal of such a behaviour, a simple custom can gradually become excessive, by a mechanism similar to an addiction such as it is defined in the DSM IV. I realized a poll based on the criteria of the scientific diagnostic (tolerance, weaning, craving). I related the results in the discussion of this thesis. These habits can led to invalidating metabolic pathologies such as obesity and diabete. They also expose to a loss of the mechanism of hunger satisfaction as well as a vulnerability favorising the phenomenon of cognitive limitation. Those pathologies have an economic, societal, and human cost against which it is necessary to fight. The pharmacist holds an important place in this collective change by his preventive role of advice and council and by the information given with the hygieno-dietetary rules. Thanks to a better understanding of the energy needs, a reading enlightened by the food labelings and children's education, it is possible to set up an awareness in the individual and collective scale. These positive changes are in agreement with the fundamental values of the Public Health.
