Progrès et perspectives dans la prise en charge thérapeutique du trouble schizophrénique de l'adulte et implication du pharmacien

Abstract : Schizophrenic disorder still remains a mistery of psychiatry. To understand it, we firts must know its origins, by looking at how the main mental illness became individualized from the abstratc notion of madness. Schizophrenic disorder is proving to be a heterogeneous and complex pathological entitly in its clinical definition, its diagnostic elaboration and in its physiopathological understanding. Advances in the field of neuroscience and cognitive science are leading to more and more accurate assumptions about the etiology of the disease, but there is still a long way to go to identify this disorder in its whole. As a recognized disease by the medical community, schizophrenia has been the subject of various, sometimes traumatic and non-specific therapeutic attempts. Then neuroleptics came to the forefront, revolutionnizing the management of schizophrenic patients. The latter representer such a pharmacological heterogeneity that! is necessary to know its specificities. Today, it is essential to overcome the semantic debates that oppose two generations of neuroleptic and admit that the choice of such a medication must be individualized and adapted to each patient. At present, no medicine can cure schizophrenia, but a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the disease gradually leads to the development of new drugs pathways. The pharmacist can stand out and assert his position as a drug professional: he is a major health actor who can contributes his share of skills in the management of a disease that is still poorly understood.
