Maintien dans l’emploi des travailleurs présentant un eczéma chronique des mains et traités par Alitrétinoïne

Abstract : Introduction: Alitretinoin (TOCTINO®) is recommended to people refractory to dermocorticoids suffering from severe chronic hand eczema. The use of TOCTINO® has already shown positive effects on quality of life but no data on professional development had ever been collected to this day. The main goal of this study was to examine worker’s job retention suffering from chronic hand eczema and treated by TOCTINO®. Methods: patients seen in dermatology at the University Hospital of Bordeaux between 07/16/2009 and 08/10/ 2016 suffering from chronic hand eczema, either working or on sick leave and treated with TOCTINO®, were included. A questionnaire about the socio-professional impact due to this pathology was addressed to these patients. The main criteria was based on how the patients get their position back after being on sick leave or how they manage to keep their position in the same company when they have not been on sick leave. Results: sixty patients were included in this study but only thirty-seven answered the questionnaire. Among the answers, 70,27% (n=26) were able to keep the position they had before their treatment; 18,92% (n=7) changed jobs due to their hand eczema and 8,11% (n=3) had to stop working for that same reason. Discussion: this study has had more positive results than others so far on the question of job retention for patients suffering from chronic hand eczema. Thus, TOCTINO® could have a positive effect on the job retention. A clinical trial would be necessary to confirm this hypothesis.
