Ressenti des internes de Médecine Générale de Paris Ile-de-France dans la formation aux gestes d’urgence, à partir du cas particulier de l’arrêt cardio-respiratoire, au cours du troisième cycle des études médicales

Abstract : Background: cardiac arrest is a public health priority and doctors are expected to be proficient in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). In France, students must complete a mandatory basic life support (BLS) course during the apprenticeship but no additional mandatory training is provided during the internship. We aim to assess the knowledge and self perception about CPR and the expectations of the residents regarding training. Methods: across-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted among 1699 french GP residents. Results: 615 students responded, 38% received no additional BLS training beyond the apprenticeship training and 70% did not feel confident of performing BLS when leading the treatment of cardiac arrest. Ninety nine percent of the students need more practical education about BLS during the internship, regardless of their level of training or experience of BLS provided. This is supported by the fact that 90,2% think that a mandatory course should be provided and 91,8% would like a a full scale simulation (OR = 4,38 [2,20-8,72]). Conclusions: in order to meet the needs of the future general practitionners, training institutions should consider a mandatory course during the intership, including a full scale simulation for example, and should take place from the beginning of the intership.
