Couples et co-dodo Étude exploratoire qualitative menée auprès de co-dormeurs

Abstract : Context: 90% of children sleeping in their parents’ bed in some societies. Differently, the culture of separate sleep has been very present in France. The mode of sharing sleep called bed-sharing may be in some contexts associated with the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The problematic interviewed here is: what are the motivations and organization of couples practicing or having practiced the bed-sharing since less of 6 months with the child or children aged 0 to 24 months? Objective: Identify the couple’s organization and motivations practicing or having practiced the bed-sharing. Methodology: 2 focus groups of 3 co-sleepers each were organized. Participants spoke for themselves and their couple in connection with various aspects of this practice, such as the needs to which it responds or the way in which it is. A content analysis was conducted. Main results: It is found that the bed-sharing is subject to different factors that can be cultural, emotional and that are unique to each couple. This practice has no real impact on the couple’s life. His organization can sometimes lack “security” in a context where society does not valorize it. We seem to be assisting however positive generational change. Conclusion: This research exploratory have highlighted important data. The study stresses that the still taboo vision of the bed-sharing leads to concealments and some couples need to be accompanied by health professionals but these still little informed on the subject.
