Les discussions à visée philosophique autour des notions de coopération et de solidarité : apprendre à penser et travailler ensemble

Abstract : Today, society is more and more individualistic and the notion of solidarity is sometimes called into question. So, pupils may have trouble working together. The new moral and civic education programs invite teachers to hold debates and philosophical discussions in class. Pupils learn to communicate together and to respect the point of view of others. Starting from the study of an album of children literature, called The lamb who did not want to be a sheep by Didier Jean and Zad, pupils held a debate around the concept of help in order to, in a second time, have a larger idea of what cooperation and solidarity mean. This study wants to show that philosophical discussions are a way for pupils to learn to think together, and so by this way to work together as well. This contributes to the improvement of the classroom climate by establishing a respect of each other’s speech and by giving mutual assistance a central place in the classroom with the creation of pedagogical tools by pupils. Because the classroom climate is more serene, it is more favourable to the success of all pupils.
