Abstract : Introduction: urinary incontinence in female athletes is an unknown and understudied subject by healthcare and sports professionals. The prevalence of urinary incontinence is about 17% in the french general population. Many sports are factors of urinary incontinence (trampoline, running). The trail was not studied yet. Objective: to determine the prevalence of urinary incontinence within a population of female athletes during a trail competition. The secondary objective is to determine some risk factors in this population. Methods: cross-sectional descriptive epidemiological study carried on trail compétition from the analysis of questionaire mailed to the 685 participants after the grand raid ultra trail, in october 2013, in the Reunion island. Results : 230 women answered the questionaire (33,6%). Mean age of the participants was 41,27 (± 9,3). the prevalence was 39,34 % IC 95 % [32,70 – 46,28]. The associated factors of urinary incontinence were: to have 2 or more pregnancies of more than 6 months OR = 2,288 IC 95 % [1,097-4,771], to have 2 or more deliveries OR = 2,985 IC 95% [1,428-6,242] ; the pelvic floor reinforcement : OR = 2,673 IC 95 % [1,405-5,085] ; the pelvic floor rehabilitation OR = 2,955 IC 95 % [1,650-5,293] ; to be focus on his pelvic floor in the everyday life : OR = 2,042 IC 95 % [1,134-3,678]. The protective factors were : the muscle building OR = 0,194 IC 95 % [0,053 – 0,710] ; the menopause OR = 0,293 IC 95 % [0,115-0,749]. Conclusion: the prevalence of urinary incontinence in female athletes practicing the trail is more important than in the general population of french women.
