Accidentologie du télémark de loisir et de compétition hors haut niveau en France

Abstract : Abstract. Background : France has around 10000 enthusiast telemark skiers. No study has yet been conducted to describe the telemark accidentology in France. Objectives : To describe the accidentology of French telemarkers except top athletes. Methods : It is a cross-sectional study. A self-administred online survey was released from March to May 2017 via telemark websites, inquired about their profile and accident data. Results : Of the 433 who responded, 76 % were men, aged 38 years ± 9,7, practising for 9 years ± 6,6, with a median of 20 exits per winter. They were beginners at 5 %, intermediates at 30 % and advanced at 65 %. 126 (29 %) reported at least one accident since the start of their practice. 212 injuries in 197 accidents were described (from 1990 to 2017). Accidents occurred mainly on ski slopes, in compact snow, with bindings Standard 75. Injuries were mainly sprains. Knee injuries were most common (28 %) followed by head (15 %), ankle (14 %), shoulder (12 %) and thumb (8 %). Age and gender did not affect occurrence of injury (p = 0.359 ; p = 0.07). Injury occurrence increased with technical level (p = 0.000), number of exits (p = 0.000) and training with a federal monitor (p = 0.010). It decreased with wearing protective gear (p = 0.018) and self-learning (p = 0.029). Pattern of injuries differed according to accident’s circumstances (p = 0.016), snow conditions (p = 0.003) and bindings used (p = 0.001). Conclusion : This descriptive study is phase one of a prevention strategy. It raises etiological hypotheses allowing an opening on complementary studies.
