Abstract : Summary Objective: Hypnosis is more often used in the medical area. Its action over stress and pain are widely documented, however its use and efficiency according gag reflex stays little related. Thus, an analysis of professional practices was conducted to assess the utilization and the effects of hypnosis used by trained practitioners on patients presenting a gag reflex. Methods: An analysis of professional practices was conducted thanks to a survey send to practitioners formed to medical hypnosis during a private training. Answers have been gathered during a month and analyzed via software such as Excel and Xlstat. Results: In the wake of their medical hypnosis’s training a majority of practitioners their way of taking care of a patient presenting a severe gag reflex. Results indicated that practitioners were very satisfied about this process regardless of parameters such as sex, dentist-expertise or hypnosis-expertise. Conclusion: This analysis of professional practices demonstrated that medical hypnosis is favored, among trained practitioners, rather other process regarding gag reflex. Their find it effective or even very effective. However this evaluation reach its limits concerning details about care characteristics and treated patients undergoing a hypnosis session. It is therefore necessary to conduct further studies to confirm the effects of hypnosis on patients presenting a gag reflex during dental treatments.
