Caractérisation des besoins des éleveurs et des bergers pour l'adoption d'un outil d'aide au gardiennage utilisant des capteurs embarqués

Abstract : Despite their strengths and their major agro-ecological role, pastoral practices are now endangered. The aim of this study is to list the needs, expectations, barriers and motivations towards the use of embarked sensors (GPS and accelerometer) for small ruminant breeders in 3 different areas in the south of France. The 3 different areas are separated by type of production: sheep meat in the Southern Alps and Var, goat milk in the Aude and sheep milk in the Atlantic Pyrenees. The ideal features of these sensors and method of use were also considered. There are four major needs, regardless of the areas considered: being more efficient and save time on daily tasks like finding and grouping animals, secure the herd to limit risks for itself and for its environment and receive support for better management of the pastoral area and eventually limit farm loads. But, even if sensors can meet all these needs, barriers such as cost and predation can delay the purchase. In addition, a fear of too much solicitation via alerts was greatly mentioned, as well as a failing network, a fragility of the system and an insufficient autonomy. Although the most likely support for the localization is the smartphone, regardless of the area, the choice of the number and type of animals to be equipped is much more varied. All these data will be reexamined during the focus groups bringing together the breeders of this survey as well as technological experts and pastoral technicians.
