L’accès au marché des tests compagnons

Abstract : Patients will have a different response to the same treatment according to their lifestyle, their environment, and their biologic and molecular properties. In addition, the side effects vary from person to person. Each patient is unique and should receive a treatment that has the best chances of success. Since treatment modalities are based on the patient’s condition, we are able to perform customized treatments: it is the personalized medicine. To learn which patients would benefit from a particular drug therapy or, conversely, which patient should not receive the medication, the drug manufacturers and device manufacturers are developing tests called “companion diagnostic”. These tests will make it possible to increase the effectiveness of drugs, target categories of patients for whom such and such products will be the most effective. The companion diagnostic is essential to the safe and effective use of the drug. How are these tests going to be marketed? What are the major issues that must be addressed by the pharmaceutical industry to ensure these products are available for the patients? What are the economic and regulatory issues?
