Évaluation des connaissances actuelles et prise en charge des MIH par les chirurgiens-dentistes et orthodontistes de Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Abstract : Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) is a structural anomaly of systemic origin, defined in 2001 by Weerheijm, affecting the first permanent molars and sometimes the permanent incisors. The diagnosis of MIH and its management are difficult to grasp because of the many differential diagnoses and treatment difficulties (esthetics, restorations, anesthetics, wears and post-eruptive enamel breakdown). Our study aiming to evaluate knowledge and management of MIH by practitioners in Nouvelle- Aquitaine. We performed a cross-sectional study from March to September 2017 including 336 dentists and 32 orthodontists. Our results showed that 48.2% of dentists and 25% of orthodontists misdiagnosed. This misdiagnosis is statistically related to graduation prior to 2001 (p <0.000001 for dentists and p <0.001 for orthodontists). It highlighted disparities in management with 58.6% fluoridation and furrow seals at 33.6% for a moderate MIH tooth. The achievement of fluoridation is statistically related to the obtaining of a diploma after 1986. There are therefore real disparities about knowledge and management of MIH between practitioners in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
