Le langage oral à l'école maternelle : les « petits parleurs »

Abstract : This dissertation proposes to study a device recommended by Philippe Boisseau, and which allows the “small speakers” students to improve : the oralbum. An oralbum is an album interpreting unavoidable tales and stories that are well known by a great amount of children. A syntax specifically related to oral language is used to tell the story. A session based on the oralbum entitled Goldilocks and the Three Bears was carried out on a sample composed of eight pupils, coming from two different classes (both from preschool, but the second one has two different levels). These pupils have syntactic difficulties and barely dare to speak in large groups. In order to determine if this type of session is effective or not, identical tests (based on a language abilities’ grading scale) were carried out before and after the session. The qualitative and quantitative results show considerable progress for pupils, both syntactic and linguistic. Indeed, they increasingly use elaborate syntactic structures and venture more to speak in large groups. However, this study has limits. Many factors also play a role in the development of young children’s language.
