Le coenseignement au service de l’enseignement explicite des stratégies d’apprentissage

Abstract : The teaching of lifelong learning skills has become a critical strategic orientation as our societies rise to the challenges of developing knowledge-based economies. But the teaching of these high level cognitive competencies to ensure students “learn to learn” poses unique challenges to the educative system. Recent research points to the effectiveness of direct instruction methods in improving the acquisition of such high-level cognitive and metacognitive strategies. In view of the specific conditions requisite to the effectiveness of this method, the experiments conducted in this study analyse the potentially beneficial effect of co-teaching upon the direct instruction of learning strategies among two groups of Year 9 students. To this end, performance in reading comprehension tests is used as an objective means of measuring the impact of co-teaching.
