Prothèses complètes et posture : étude d'un cas clinique

Abstract : Because of the aging of the population, patients live longer and are in better shape. However, the dentition of those patients is not always spared, and the population of toothless’ patients increases as a consequence. A complete prosthetic rehabilitation affects of course the oral cavity but it has to be perfectly assimilated in a psychological, aesthetic and physical ensemble. The issue for the practitioner is to restore the dental articulation while respecting the whole patient. It’s not rare in our practice, that a complete denture, made in the utmost respect of the rules of dentistry, is not well tolerated by the patient. Many disciplines are at our disposal to check its global integration like osteopathy, chiropody and posturology. We asked ourselves during this dissertation if the spatial position of the mandible and more precisely dental rehabilitation with complete dentures, could have an impact on the head posture and the global posture of the patient. There is very few data in the literature about complete dentures; we chose to make different test on a volunteer patient wanting a prosthetic rehabilitation. Different posture’s tests and stabilometry tests have been made with old dentures, without dentures and finally with newer ones. As a result of those examinations, we observed significant modifications in the patient’s posture according to different circumstances. This result has to be confirmed in a larger scale study.
