Analyse du vécu et des enjeux relationnels des médecins généralistes et psychiatres, dans le cadre de rencontres régulières : une étude qualitative en Isère

Abstract : The lack in communication and cooperation between General Practitioners (GPs) and psychiatrists is well known and deleterious for the patient. To reinforce that collaboration, multidisciplinary meetings seem to be a good way to improve the communication. The primary aim of that study was to analyze the feelings of GPs and Psychiatrists who went through regular meetings, and to analyze how this affected their professional relationships. Twelve Interviews were done among GPs from a health centre in Grenoble and Psychiatrists working in a psychological medico center from the same area (who experienced these meetings). The interviewed practitioners expressed a positive experience and highlighted the benefits of that kind of collaboration. The meetings appeared to be experienced as a mutual support for the practitioners and permitted a reinsurance. The meeting were formative and helped the GPs to feel useful within their psychiatric care. It also permitted to the different practitioners to agree and share their knowledge to provide a more coherent and comprehensive care for these diseases. These meetings also allowed both the GPs and the psychiatrists to destigmatize their co-workers. This benefit was also found for the patients, thus permitting a better compliance. However, many obstacles were found to be deleterious : organizational constraints and heavy schedule did not allow the practitioners to easily find a common time to meet. These results show that meetings might be a good improvement in the collaboration between GPs and Psychiatrists, by creating a privileged bond. Thus facilitating the use of other means of communication (e-mail, Phone calls).
