Optimisation de l'évaluation de la sécurité des extraits végétaux dans les produits cosmétiques : mise au point préliminaire, outils et cas pratiques

Abstract : The new European cosmetic regulation 1223/2009 requires better safety and quality of raw materials and cosmetic products. Tests on animals are now forbidden for cosmetics, and sufficient alternative methods are lacking, making the safety assessment of vegetal extracts increasingly complex. Vegetal extracts are an endless source of innovation in cosmetics. Besides, they have a great success among consumers who often believe that natural products are inherently safe. However, with the impossibility to standardize vegetal extracts, appear real difficulties in assessing their safety. As a matter of fact, their composition might vary according to the part of plant used, geographical, environmental and extraction conditions… The supplier’s toxicological data are frequently incomplete and available information in the literature is not sufficient. The purpose of this thesis is to propose a methodology as well as relevant databases to optimize the vegetal extracts’ safety assessment.
