Traitement du mélanome métastatique par la metformine : un nouvel espoir ?

Abstract : Skin cancer with the highest incidence in France, melanoma represents a major challenge for Public Health, in view of the large number of patients and the recreational use of sun exposure. Known for 60 years, metformin is today the first drug prescribed in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Recently, cancer research has shown that this drug has anti-invasive, antiproliferative, and autophagic inducing effects on tumor cells. These properties have been found in metastatic melanoma and in many other cancers. Today, researchers hope for future use of metformin as an adjuvant to cancer treatments. Through his vigilance and his proximity to the population, pharmacist is essential in the prevention of melanoma and in improving the patients quality of life of patients.
