Éducation au choix visuel de couleur sur une population d'étudiants en odontologie

Abstract : The positive effect of education and training on color matching has been known for years. The aim of this thesis was to provide dental students with a simple technique for visual color matching using the Vita 3D Master. The study involved 91 students, from 3rd to 6th year. They were tasked to perform color matching on two sets of four teeth, before and after a quick lesson on shade matching. Their performance was evaluated through two parameters: accuracy of choice, and speed. The study took place in a controlled lighting environment (5500k), over a neutral background. The group got an average of 27,57 out of 40 points in 374,28 sec on the first set, and 30,96pts in 271.28 sec on the second; showing the results of education on their color matching skills (p<0.0001). The clinical experience of the students plays no part in their results. However, before training, sex does, as the women tend to better (p<0.001). The results after training show no difference between genders. These results suggest that color matching should be taught before the students start their clinical practice.
