Attentes et réponses aux besoins des femmes durant le post-partum concernant la consultation en lactation

Abstract : Introduction: The rate of breastfeeding in maternity is 74%, at one month it drops to 54%. Several studies have shown that in order to help mothers to initiate and continue breastfeeding, a specialized consultation should be set up. The main objective (part 1) was to describe the expectations of lactating women regarding the lactation consultation carried out by a midwife consultant in lactation during their stay in maternity type 3 in the Auvergne-Rhône- Alpes. The secondary objective (part 2) was to assess breastfeeding counselling from the perspective of women. Population and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out. 111 women responded to a questionnaire during their maternity stay (part 1), and 12 women completed a questionnaire after receiving the lactation consultation (part 2). Results: Almost all women denied the existence of the consultation, while 55% said they wanted to benefit from it. They would like to follow their breastfeeding. The information they would like to receive relates to the start of breastfeeding (N = 86), withdrawal (71), return to work (61), prevention of pain (7), breastfeeding positions (5) and fatigue (1). Regarding the second part, women said they were satisfied with the consultation, although a larger number of hours would be desirable. Discussion: The concerns and need for information of mothers during the stay in maternity are found as difficulties and reasons for consultation. Information for women and professionals on lactation consultation and an increase in the number of patients needed for follow-up and assistance in continuing breastfeeding is recommended.
