Place de la médecine intégrative dans la prise en charge thérapeutique des maladies vectorielles à tiques

Abstract : Tick-borne diseases are pathologies carried by ticks, the world's second largest infectious diseases’ vector in human health after the mosquito. The first vector-borne disease of the Northern Hemisphere is Lyme borreliosis. In France, the annual incidence rate of the disease was estimated in 2016 at 84 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (54,647 new cases per year). This borreliosis is caused by the transmission to human of bacteria of the species complex Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato by biting from a hard tick of the genus Ixodes during his blood meal. However, Borrelia is not the only pathogen transmitted by ticks, other bacteria (Anaplasma sp., Rickettsia sp. …), parasites (Babesia sp.) and viruses (Flavivirus sp.) will cause co-infections and undermine the immune system of patients with these diseases. Borrelia, unlike other less evolved bacteria, has multiple defense capabilities against the immune system of its host influencing including three-stage evolution of Lyme borreliosis. The diversity of clinical symptoms of tick-borne diseases makes their management complex and justifies the preponderant role of clinical diagnosis compared to biological tests. Thorough examination of the doctor will thus allow to rule out differential diagnoses. Among the proposed treatment, conventional treatment mainly uses antibiotic therapy. The aim of this thesis is to show the place occupied by the different therapeutic options of integrative medicine, with the use of other molecules and the contribution of naturopathy. A retrospective study conducted at the Lannemezan Hospital Center between January 2014 and December 2016 will illustrate the benefits of integrative therapy for the 58 patients in care.
