Analyse d’affleurements rocheux par photogrammétrie : instrumentation légère, protocole d’acquisition et restitution 3D pour l’analyse structurale

Abstract : In full booming since several years, the photogrammetry makes possible to represent an object in 3D with 2D pictures taken from different points of view. Digital cameras are relatively low cost instruments; however the 3D model given by photogrammetry alone needs external references for point cloud’s scaling and georeferencing. The problem is that the determination of theses references usually needs very expensive instruments like total stations and thus this method is inaccessible to a large public. As part of a research project, geologists wish to model rock outcrops in order to determine fracture planes’ tilts and orientations. For this purpose, we have established a photogrammetric protocol that meets the geosciences’ field study requirements (lightness and low investment). In order to validate this method we carried out two missions to compare this new protocol with existing techniques already proven. Finally, we extracted the structural data from the generated 3D model: strike, dip direction, dimensions and connectivity of fracture planes.
