Renforcement d'un bâti existant vis -à-vis du séisme : Ministère de Justice à Beyrouth

Abstract : In spite of the increasing importance of building structure reinforcement to resist earth quakes and other natural disasters, there is still lack of attention to this issue in Lebanon. Moreover, the country suffers from a significant lack of information and experience in this domain. This study proposes possible techniques and solutions, as well as a methodology to follow for building structure reinforcement. We first present the different recognition techniques of existing structures and assessment by testing on site, or in the laboratory. Then we list reinforcement techniques applicable to the different structural elements (foundations, columns, walls, beams and slabs). The second part of the study is a case study on the reinforcement of an existing building, the Ministry of Justice in Beirut, all the way from initial assessment to the method of reinforcement, to implementation and finally verification and evaluation.
