Trouble des conduites alimentaires chez le garcon à l'adolescence : symptome ou syndrome ? : à partir de 8 cas cliniques

Abstract : Introduction: eating disorders represent the third most common chronic disease among teenage girls. The existence of a male form is of increasing interest to clinicians. Many authors have reported cases similar to the female form, in young boys, but few studies detail the clinical specificities of these disorders in boys. Method: our study consists in examining the clinical characteristics and history of the patients in our sample, based on the hypothesis that symptoms in boys may not be identical to those in females. Our retrospective study included 8 cases of young boys admitted for eating disorders in child psychiatry or pediatric units between 2006 and 2017. Results: clinical pictures in our sample are more heterogeneous than in girls. The average age of admission tends to be lower than reported in the literature, with a frequent pre-pubertal onset of symptoms. In one case, eating difficulties had begun in infancy and persisted into adolescence. Overall, the most striking feature appears to be heterogeneity, rather than severity of symptoms. Conclusion: we observe atypical clinical pictures, with symptoms do not necessarily correspond to official criteria in females. Further studies are needed in order conform our hypotheses.
