Projet RhizoDia : essais en protection du cassis par Rhyzobius lophantae contre la cochenille blanche du mûrier

Abstract : Blackcurrant cultivation represents a small surface in France (2500 hectares), but it sustains a whole sector mainly based on transformation. Since the years 2000, all the French production areas are infested by Pseudaulacaspis pentagona (Targioni Tozzeti 1886), a very polyphagous, widely distributed diaspid scale. It’s damages on blackcurrant bushes are important, to the point of threatening the whole sector. Confronted with the ineffectiveness of the current chemical treatments, the RhizoDia project was set up in 2016 to find a viable alternative to these pesticides. The actors involved include the experimental station of La Morinière, the Koppert company, the Agrobiothech Institute (INRA PACA) and the Bourgogne Chamber of Agriculture. The Coccinellidae Rhyzobius lophantae (Blaisdell 1892) was selected as a natural enemy to take part into biological control trials. From 2016 to 2018, trials and measurements were conducted in experimental plots owned by 4 growers, to assess the efficiency of the predation of R.lophantae on P.pentagona. The compiled data reveal that the releases of R.lophantae clean up the infested plots better that the treatments using Chlorpyriphos-methyl. It was also observed that this Coccinellidae is highly mobile, and leaves the plots that don’t host enough preys. Some aspects of its ecology are still to clarify. In 2018, the methods used for this project can’t by applied by the growers, mainly because of the financial cost of the releases. Leads presented in this report will allow to use R.lophantae in an affordable way in a near future, or to launch other (more practical) experimentations.
