Traumatisme par « coup de fouet cervical » et dysfonctions temporo-mandibulaires : approche anatomique, clinique et médico-légale

Abstract : Whiplash injuries represent a significant proportion of public road trauma and occupy a preponderant place in the field of forensic dentistry expertise. Affection of the cervical spine will have a direct or indirect negative impact on the oro- facial sphere, with the appearance of temporo-mandibular disorders in the more or less long term.The public health stakes are high. Cost for society significant. The criteria of medico-legal imputabilities constitute a real challenge for the expert who will have to determine with acuity whether the sequelae are directly related to the trauma or secondary to a previous process of natural evolution. The purpose being compensation for physical injury. The author proposes to make an inventory on the concept of trauma by "whiplash", an anatomical and clinical review of TMJ in order to better understand the modern design of TMD. This work ends with the medico-legal aspect and a case of commented expertise in order to associate these two entities.
