, Il est dès lors peu judicieux de plonger sous l'influence de l'alcool ou d'autres substances intoxicantes, tant pour le plongeur que pour son binôme. La consommation d'alcool réduit notamment le temps de réaction, la vue, la concentration, la capacité de réaliser des tâches simultanées, le jugement et les capacités psychomotrices. S'il semble peu probable qu'un plongeur expérimenté s'immerge en état d'ébriété, plonger le lendemain d'une soirée festive peut signifier se mettre à l'eau avec un taux d'alcoolémie significatif. L'analyse de la littérature sur l'accidentologie en plongée révèle que l'alcool pourrait être un FDR d'accident.
