Pensée enseignante et agir professoral autour de la tablette numérique et de l’autonomie des élèves : étude de cas d’une enseignante en anglais dans un collège public de France

Abstract : This case study focuses on the practices and thoughts of a teacher who is implementing a sequence in which students use digital tablets during English class at college. Because learner autonomy issue takes a large place in the teacher’s speech, the present study focuses on this theme as a goal and as a teaching modality. The reflection on the theoretical and methodological frameworks to be set for the support of the data analisis, led us to examine the notion of "teacher autonomy" which characterizes a set of actions that interact with students on one side and with teacher’s cognition on the other. The teacher’s internal and external factors, constraints and resources, limit or increase teacher’s autonomy and can be retrieved from his or her speech. The analysis was based on the data collected from the interviews, eventually cross-referenced with the data from the class observations, to support one or the other of the interpretative hypotheses. The results revealed some aspects of the teacher's thinking about her practice with the digital tablet and about learner selfreliance in doing the activities, in working with peers, and using the digital devices.
