Envisager une nouvelle grossesse après une dépression post-natale : freins et facteurs favorisants

Abstract : Objective The main objective of this study was to understand what were the elements of a postnatal depression experience that might have an effect on planning a new pregnancy. Methods This study was based on a questionnaire posted online on communities networks websites between july and september 2017. This questionnaire was mostly made up of open questions which enabled women to testify about their postnatal depression experience. Results The main result was that the experience of postnatal depression seemed to be an obstacle for planning a new pregnancy as women were afraid of a recurrence of the mental disease. The support given by husband and family was difficult to rate in this case and further investigation needed to be pursued to conclude about it. Women needed a medical care closer to their expectations. Caregivers might be more attentive to their specific needs and it would help them comtemplating a new pregnancy more easily. The midwife was named as the perfect caregiver to play this part. Conclusion A postnatal depression background clearly affects the way women experience parenthood afterward. This influence is undeniable whether it’s in a good way or not. It can be a huge obstacle for one woman whereas it does not apply to another one.
