Validation psychométrique de la version française de l’échelle de limitation d’activité «Activity Impairment Assessment» (AIA) chez les femmes de 18 à 75 ans consultant en soins primaires pour cystite simple

Abstract : Background: simple acute cystitis in women is a common pathology in general practice, with high rate of antibiotic prescription. In order to improve this prescription, the patient-centered approach requires a specific tool to evaluate the impact of this pathology. The "Activity Impairment Assessment" (AIA) questionnaire answering this need, it was translated into French according to the translation/backtranslation method. The AIA-fr evaluates, over the last 24 hours, the amount of time of the patient’s work or regular activities impaired as a result of her urinary infection. The aim of our study is to validate the psychometric properties of the translated tool AIA-fr. Methods: we carried out a quantitative, prospective, observational, multicentric study. The AIA-fr, the King's Health Questionnaire (KHQ), the Ditrovie Scale, and a symptom rating scale were self administered on day 0, day 3, and day 5 to women consulting in general practice for simple acute cystitis. Results: the analysis covered 50 patients recruited in 2017. A principal component analysis and factor analysis confirm the one-dimensional structure of AIA-fr. The internal consistency is excellent (Cronbach alpha = 0.87). The translated scale globally matches well with the predefined elements of convergent validity (Rs> 0.6 / KHQ, Rs> 0.4 / Ditrovie) and divergent validity (Rs <0.4). The AIA-fr has a good discriminant validity in relation to the severity of key symptoms, and evolves in the same direction between D0 and D5, suggesting a good responsiveness. Conclusion: the properties of reliability and validity of the AIA-fr are quite similar to the original english tool, allowing the valid use of this instrument in simple acute cystitis in primary care in France.
