Mise en place d’un programme d’accompagnement destiné aux parents d’enfants sourds récemment formés à la Langue française Parlée Complétée (LfPC)

Abstract : The intensive and early practice of Cued Speech has been proven to help deaf children. However, it can be difficult to implement this mode of communication on a daily basis and parents may lack time and support to carry out this project. The aim of this case study is to help 5 families to stay motivated while learning Cued Speech through regular visits at home, after their initial training. With role plays, readings and nursery rhymes, we wish to help them perceive the benefits of the Cued Speech. To that end, we analyse the exchanges between the children and the parents on a quantitative and qualitative basis, especially by observing the evolution of the cue errors and the amount of time children gaze at their parents. Although all parents were satisfied with our intervention, the low numbers in this study did not show that parental home care has a significant impact on communication between deaf children and their parents. This project would deserve to be continued in the long term and within a larger population in order to obtain more accurate results.
