Abstract : Introduction: Colloidal silver is a solution of silver nanoparticles in homogeneous suspension in sterile water. The research question was : how does colloidal silver have its place in postpartum perineal care after sutured laceration or sutured episiotomy. Study objectives: Identify the effect of colloidal silver on the skin or on the mucous membranes, and map the current uses of colloidal silver in Medicine and Surgery in order to provide a research protocol. Material and method: A literature review was completed based on the following databases: Pubmed, Cochrane library, Science direct, EM premium. The present study was based on 9 previous studies and 10 literature review selected from English material. Results: Three properties of the colloidal silver were isolated. Those properties are the Antibacterial effect, anti-inflammatory, improvement of the wound healing quality. Conclusion of the study: Those results should be used with caution due to the limited number of resulting studies. The study under consideration will aim to confirm or obtain new information on the colloidal silver. An observational study will be undertaken beforehand in order to define the primary endpoint of the clinical research study.
