Césarienne en urgence : le vécu des femmes

Abstract : Caesarean represent, nowadays, 20% of the births in France. The magnitude of the rate, can be explained by several elements, including improved practices and obstetric care. However, if the percentage of morbidity and mortality maternal-fetal has lowered, we don’t know the psychologic and social after-effect of caesarean on women. This study was undertaken in order to describe the experiences of women who were performed an emergency caesarean, and to identify the elements wich impact on the experience. Through semi-directive interviews conducted on 12 women, a qualitative phenomenological study was conducted. Results show us that frustrations exists, pain or even guilt at different moments of this particular birth. Thus, the father’s absence, the first stealth contact with the new born, or the postoperative loss of autonomy make this experience harder to live. As health professionals, we can act for these couples so that the experience of giving birth, remains a happy memory, regardless of the mode of childbirth.
