Abstract : Introduction : The appearance of urination disorders during labor, which may extend to the postpartum period, leads the midwife to have to watch the diuresis. The analgesia epidural, more and more frequent (81,4% of deliveries in 2016), has the effect of increasing this dysfunction. evertheless, guidelines of the major institutions are incomplete on the mode of urinary catheterization in maternity ward, and lead up to be interested in midwives’ practices ... Materials and method : The objective of the study was to interview midwives in RSPA’s hospitals concerning the practice of urinary catheterization for women who benefited from analgesia epidural during labor until resumption of spontaneous urination, distinguish between types 1, 2 and 3. This study observational, transverse with a descriptive aim was executed by questionnaires, with 132 respondents. Results and discussion : Midwives knew the importance of intermittent catheterization, and 90,32% of them realized at least one for women under analgesia epidural. Overall, all midwives used the same landmarks to sound in delivery room. But, midwives in type 3 were the only ones to systematically perform a urinary catheterization before expulsive efforts and in the end of immediate postpartum period. The study also showed the emergence of a new method of monitoring : bladderscan. Conclusion : The lack of guidelines on the urinary catheterization’s practice lead up to divergent practices but with many common points, from labor to postpartum. The judgement and knowledges’ midwives are their only body of knowledge without being an obstacle.
