L’effet de la présence de l’étudiant au cabinet de médecine générale sur le volume des prescriptions

Abstract : Introduction: The main objective of this work was to determine if the presence of a student in the general practice office changed the volume of drug prescriptions. The secondary judgments criteria concerned the prescriptions of biology, nursing cares and physiotherapy. Method: This was led through a cross-sectional quantitative descriptive study conducted in 2017 based on the 2016 individual activity and prescription files (RIAP) of general practitioners trainers (MSU) and general practitioners who are on their way to becoming trainers but who do not host trainees yet (MSU without student), from Aix-Marseille University. The primary criteria was the annual volume of drug prescriptions (in euros). Results: In total 47 RIAPs were recovered. 34 for MSU without students and 13 for MSU. The descriptive analysis revealed that, in the presence of the student, the MSU performed more consultations (5282 vs 3806 p = 0.034) and acts (5994 vs 4354 p = 0.028). After modelling, the student's presence is associated with a decrease in the annual volume of medication prescriptions (- 5233 € compared to the MSU (p 0.80), ie 0.02%), a decrease in the annual biology prescription volume (-31012 coefficients relative to the MSU (p = 0.19) or 17%)), a decrease in the volume of nursing prescriptions (-1961 coefficients compared to the MSU (p = 0.8) or 4%), and with an annual decrease in prescriptions of physiotherapy cares (-2073 coefficients compared to the MSU (p = 0.67)) a decrease of 5.5% Conclusion: The overall results of our study were not significant because of the size of the sample. Nevertheless, the volumes of drug prescriptions, biology, nursing and physiotherapy were lower in the presence of the student.
