Analyse des bases génétiques de la tolérance à la pourriture basale du stipe chez le palmier à huile (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)

Abstract : The basidiomycete Ganoderma boninense causes basal stem rot disease on oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) plantings. An average of 50 percent yield losses from basal stem rot occurs in mature stands. Oil palm genetic improvement is involved in durability and sustainability of the oil palm production, which is the first source of vegetal oil. 335 oil palms coming from the same heterotic group was genotyped with 199 SSR markers. These palms are organized in 48 interconnected families coming from 7 founders from 2 distinct genetic origins. This study analyzed 10 years of phenotyping data of nursery stage plants, concerning artificial and standardized inoculation of seedling with Ganoderma. This data counts the number of young oil palms infected by the Ganoderma during the disease kinetics. A generalized linear mixed model and the area under the disease progress curve were used to predict the breeding values of the oil palms of interest coming from the nursery data. Ganoderma resistance QTL in this pedigree population were mapped with a multi-QTL Bayesian approach. The analysis showed 3 Ganoderma resistance QTL. The QTL allele’s prediction identified 3 founders of the 2 genetic origins with at least one favorable allele. The study of a breeding population for the determinism of Ganoderma genetic resistance, showed alleles segregations in a pedigreed population with founders bearing favorable alleles and paves the way to a marker assisted selection.
